This week, I want to share a hack that I’ve helped over 7,500 clients implement on their LinkedIn.
It's all about how to get more people to accept your connection requests.
Trust me, this works like magic!
We've all been there… You're scrolling through LinkedIn, and you see someone you'd like to connect with. Maybe they work in the same field as you, or they're in a company you're interested in. So, you click that "Connect" button. But then comes the tricky part - what do you write in that little message box?
Most people go for something really basic. They might say:
"Hey, we're both in the same industry. Let's connect!"
Or maybe:
"Hi, I'm just trying to grow my network on LinkedIn."
The problem is, these messages are super vague. They sound like something a robot would write. And guess what? When people get messages like this, they often just ignore them.
But don't worry! I've got a secret weapon for you.
It's a simple trick that can make your connection requests stand out. Ready for it?
Here it is: In the first seven words of your message, say something personal about the person you're trying to connect with.
Why the first seven words?
Because that's all people see in their inbox before the message gets cut off.
Those first few words are your chance to grab their attention.
Let me give you some examples:
"Sarah, I saw you also work in marketing..."
"Mike, I noticed we both went to State U..."
"Alex, your recent post about AI was really..."
See how that works? You're showing right away that you've actually looked at their profile. You're not just sending the same message to everyone. You're trying to make a real connection.
This little trick can work wonders. It might even double the number of people who accept your requests!
Now, you might be wondering, "But how do I come up with something personal to say?"
It's easier than you think.
Just take a quick look at their profile before you send the request.
Look for things like:
What they do
Where they live
Where they work
Where they went to school
Any recent posts they've made
Find one thing you can mention, and boom! You've got your personalizer.
Here's the best part: once you get used to doing this, it doesn't take much extra time. But it makes a huge difference in how people respond to you.
So, next time you're sending a LinkedIn connection request, remember this trick:
Personalize the first 7 words.
It's that simple. Give it a try this week, and let me know how it goes. I bet you'll be surprised at how many more people start accepting your requests!
That's all for this week's tip.
Keep growing your network, and I'll be back next week with more advice to help you succeed.
Until then, happy connecting!
